When installing smart toilets in old residential areas, the three core issues that need to be addressed are insufficient water pressure, circuit adaptation, and space adaptation. The following are necessary or recommended equipment and selection guidelines:
1、 Required Equipment: Addressing Pain Points in Basic Use
1. Booster pump (core essential)
Old residential areas commonly suffer from low water pressure and insufficient water supply to high-rise buildings, resulting in weak flushing of smart toilets, weak water flow in washing mode, and even inability to start.
Selection suggestion:
Priority should be given to selecting a silent booster pump (with a noise level of 40 decibels) to avoid affecting rest;
Traffic≥ 3m³ /h, Lift of 25 meters, suitable for low water pressure environments in old residential areas;
Recommended brands: Mijia, Haier, Grundfos (supporting direct adaptation to mainstream smart toilets such as Hengjie and Jiumu).
Installation position: Between the angle valve and the smart toilet inlet, a 10cm operating space needs to be reserved for easy maintenance in the later stage.
2. Specialized waterproof socket (essential for safety)
Smart toilets require a 220V power supply to drive, and the aging circuits and lack of waterproof protection for sockets in old residential areas can easily lead to leakage and short circuit risks.
Selection suggestion:
Choose a 10A waterproof socket (IPX4 or above waterproof level) with splash proof box to prevent water vapor from entering;
Lay independent circuits separately to avoid sharing with water heaters and washing machines and prevent tripping;
If the original socket position is too high/too low, it needs to be rewired. The socket should be 30-40cm above the ground (in accordance with the installation standards for smart toilets).
3. All copper angle valve (leak proof essential)
Old residential area corner valves are mostly made of plastic materials, which are prone to aging and leakage, and the outlet diameter is small (G3/4), resulting in slow water inflow.
Selection suggestion:
Switching to a full copper angle valve (G1/2 inches) results in smooth water flow and a 3-fold increase in durability;
Priority should be given to angle valves with aerators to reduce water flow impact and lower the risk of water leakage.
2、 Optional equipment: Enhance experience and adaptability
1. Anti freezing insulation sleeve (essential for northern/non heating areas)
The temperature in old residential areas is low in winter, and the heating elements and water pipes of smart toilets are prone to freezing and cracking, resulting in equipment damage.
Selection suggestion:
Choose a fully enclosed insulation cover (covering the toilet body, water pipes, and sockets), with built-in electric heating film and adjustable temperature (10-50 ℃);
Recommended brands: Xiaomi, Panasonic (compatible with most smart toilet models, easy to install).
2. Wireless controller (no socket/limited space scenario)
If there is no reserved socket in the bathroom or the toilet is installed far away from the power source, a wireless controller can be used instead of a wired connection.
Selection suggestion:
Select Bluetooth/WiFi version wireless controller, with a battery life of 6 months and support for remote control through mobile app;
Recommended brands: Jiumu, Arrow (compatible with their own smart toilet models, with a delay of less than 0.5 seconds).
3. Anti odor floor drain core (odor/anti odor issue)
The poor sealing of floor drains in old residential areas and the tendency of smart toilets to produce odors during flushing can affect the user experience.
Selection suggestion:
Replace with magnetic anti odor floor drain core (automatic closure, anti odor, anti insect, anti backflow);
Priority should be given to T-shaped or U-shaped deep water seal styles, which have stronger sealing performance and are suitable for the size of floor drains in old residential areas.
4. Armrest/safety pole (age friendly renovation)
The residents of old residential areas are mostly elderly people. After the installation of smart toilets, getting up/sitting down is prone to slipping, and safety auxiliary facilities need to be installed.
Selection suggestion:
Choose wall mounted stainless steel handrails (with a load-bearing capacity of 150kg), installed on both sides of the toilet, with a height of 70-80cm above the ground;
Recommended brands: Jiumu, Hengjie (supports customized length, suitable for elderly people of different heights).
3、 Installation precautions
Boosting pump debugging: After installation, the pressure of the boosting pump needs to be adjusted to avoid damage to the internal components of the smart toilet caused by high water pressure (>0.3MPa). It is recommended to use a pressure gauge to monitor and control it between 0.15-0.25MPa.
Circuit safety testing: Before installation, use a multimeter to test the socket voltage (220V&plus 10%) and grounding resistance (<4Ω) to ensure circuit safety before powering on.
Equipment compatibility confirmation: Before installing the device, it is necessary to consult the customer service of the smart toilet brand to confirm whether the booster pump and wireless controller are compatible with your own model, in order to avoid functional conflicts.
